Why the name Naxxar Technology:
The company is named after a small town in the northern part of Malta. For centuries the very small island of Malta has been a central mecca for trade in that region because of its strategic location. It provided a very essential connecting point for seafarers, traders, and merchants alike. The connectivity of this very small island made it stand out as an essential hub where trade and innovation combined shaping and defining the frontiers of the time. This is in effect the underlying foundation of Naxxar Tech, to become a critical hub for innovation and trade with sustainability, visibility and security at the core redefining the frontiers of the future.

Global trade
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has identified that global trade is projected to double by 2050 this creates huge opportunities but also predictable challenges. The total cargo transported in 2022 will be carried within 90 days in 2050. Thus, efficiency, productivity, and sustainability will be critical to the growth and success of global trade. This ushered in a new era of frictionless trade where cargo, information, and payments would flow smoothly and promptly between participants globally. To foster this transition, an ecosystem of innovative hardware and software is urgently needed.
The tipping point of digital transformation and new innovations has arrived with a focus on smart ships, smart ports, and smart supply chains. This new technological infrastructure would soon become very dependent on the easy capture and smooth flow of data. Data itself would be the new lifeblood of global shipping and soon become one of the most valued assets within global trade.
Naxxar Tech believes the more data points created and the faster the connection of these data points, this is where the 'X-factor', enormous value will be found.

Visibility:
The vision of Naxxar Tech was formulated as part of the Entrepreneur First accelerator in 2018. The original vision realised that cargo visibility, connectivity and data were huge and growing problems for global trade. Most participants had and still have limited, if any, real-time visibility of their shipments, specifically in the container shipping segment.

Security:
During Lloyd’s Lab Accelerator 2018,  it came to light that cargo security was a huge risk to the container segments. Over $50 billion is lost every year, with over 70% being full container loads.  The mission at that point was to automate claims handling with cargo security at the core. Unfortunately, COVID-19   meant that the venture did not take off as planned due to the lockdown and a pivot needed to be made.

Sustainability:
During COVID-19 a pivot was engineered into carbon emission reporting as it made sense to automate a more structured global problem.  Naxxar Tech was fortunate to be part of the Cambridge-based Carbon 13 environmental sustainability accelerator. With the help of the mentors and experts at Carbon 13 the global climate crisis became very clear. With global freight carbon emissions accounting for over 3.4%, it was discovered that with the same tracking devices and data sets, there was a natural synergy between sustainability, visibility, and security.
