Beware data, not oil, spills

Leif made front page to the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers ‘Shipping Network’ Magazine. The article focused on growing treat and vulnerability of all shipping companies to cyber-attacks. A breach of cyber security can now cost almost the same as a medium size oil spill. This means that most shipping companies whether ship side or shore side will be exposed to cyber risk on a weekly, daily, hourly and even on a transactional basis. “Hence, cybersecurity is everyone's concern. Ignoring it can be costly. The cost of cleaning up the damage after a cyber attack can as large as that of an oil spill plus huge fines.”
